“We care about our local communities. There are many initiatives that we undertake personally and as a firm to help make them better.”

At CC&L Private Capital, we believe that our success as individuals and as a company depends on the health of the communities in which we live and work. We are committed to building strong and vibrant communities by supporting causes that are important to our clients, employees, partners and stakeholders. Our commitment not only involves financial support, but also participating and playing significant leadership roles in a number of not-for-profit organizations, foundations and charities.

The Connor, Clark & Lunn Foundation

As part of the Connor, Clark & Lunn Financial Group, CC&L Private Capital proudly supports the Connor, Clark & Lunn Foundation (CC&L Foundation). Created in 1999, the CC&L Foundation responds to requests from clients, staff and others to fund programs and not-for-profit organizations that help promote a better environment, improvements to education, advances in science and medicine, stronger communities and the arts.

2018 Holiday Campaign

Last holiday season, through the CC&L Foundation, we supported 56 charitable and non-profit organizations across Canada. All of these organizations work hard to make the holidays a little easier for people in need. Support provided by the annual holiday campaign is focused on food banks helping to fight hunger, homeless shelters providing warmth and a roof to those who need it most, empty stocking funds and meal hamper programs.

The organizations that received donations from the foundation were nominated by the firm's employees, including Vice President Richard Pope. As Richard explains, the Mississauga Food Bank, which fights hunger in his home community, is close to his heart: "Nearly 100,000 Mississauga residents live in poverty and the aim of the Mississauga Food Bank is to make sure none of our neighbours go without nutritious food to feed their families." Richard volunteers at the food bank's aquaponic AquaGrow Farm—the first of its kind in Canada. Nestled in the food bank's warehouse, the 800 square foot urban farm grows and distributes thousands of servings of fresh produce and protein each year. Richard asked that the CC&L Foundation support the organization with its annual holiday food drive campaign. He says, "Every single dollar donated equates to two meals, and the support of the CC&L Foundation will provide several thousand meals for families with young children during a special time of year."

Partnering with the Spark Global Philanthropic Foundation

CC&L Private Capital recognizes the importance of Canadians giving and volunteering in their communities and beyond. To help prepare the next generation of philanthropists and counter a decline in charitable participation rates, we have joined forces with the Spark Global Philanthropic Foundation (SPARK), which was established to teach young Canadians all about philanthropy.

Spark arranges a varied curriculum for students that includes a Stanford University course on charitable giving as well as seminars with some of the country’s top philanthropists. In addition, CC&L Private Capital takes its experience working with foundations and boards to educate the students on the technical aspects of philanthropy, allowing them to see in practice the principles they have learned.

Catherine Dorazio, Managing Director, CC&L Private Capital, had the honour of addressing the graduating class, inspiring the students with words of encouragement in their future philanthropic endeavours and announcing the CC&L Foundation's gift to fund a foundation on behalf of each student.
