CC&L’s fundamental equity and fixed income teams engage with the management teams of the companies in their investment universe as part of their research processes. When possible, the teams will exert their influence on management either as result of their relationship or from an investor’s position.

The fundamental equity portfolio managers regularly meet with management teams of the companies they invest. The team reviews strategic and operational objectives, including ESG issues, and establishes milestones with each company’s management team at least once a year.

The fixed income team also meets with company management teams. During these meetings, the credit team engages management on a number of environmental, social and corporate governance questions to seek clarification as well as express their own views on topical subjects.

CC&L’s Stewardship and Engagement team works closely with CC&L’s portfolio managers to better focus engagement activity by becoming more proactive and more systematic in areas that are important to CC&L and our clients.

In addition to the engagement activities described above, CC&L is an active member of the Canadian Coalition for Good Governance (CCGG). CC&L works closely with other CCGG members to engage with Canadian companies on various governance issues. CC&L’s President and CIO, Martin Gerber, is a member of the CCGG Board of Directors.
